1985 Bayliner 1600 Capri Cuddy Cabin
Submitted By: Mark42
Date Created: 07-28-2007
Description: Picked up this 1985 Bayliner 1600 Capri Cuddy Cabin in June 2007. I didn't really need it, but I had my eye out for a nice clean small cuddy cabin so the kids (ages 3 and 7) could have a place to get out of the sun and take a nap. Plus, it has a port-a-pottie.

The boat was garage kept and used mostly in fresh water, so it is in great shape. After a complete check out, it passed with flying colors because it has no rot or water damage in the stringers or transom.

It came with the OEM Escort trailer (needed new wheel bearings), a heavy duty OEM Bayliner cover and Navy top. The Navy top looked like it had never been used.

These projects document the modifications to make it fit my needs.

Boat is pretty clean. It does have a few scuffs and scratches, but nothing big or bad. Most just polish off.

Has the factory mounted swim platform and ladder. That is a nice option when you have kids.

Testing it out on the Peconic Bay
The Capri got its initial test 2007. Ran like a top and handled so well I was pleasantly surprised. Actually I was grinning from ear to ear for a week. Even with the Navy top up and two adults and 3 kids, it still managed to hit 38 mph consistantly. With the top down and just me it does 40mph.

Here the Capri is anchored in the Peconic Bay, Long Island, NY. It was a real pleasure to drive. The deep V hull really cuts the chop and helps this little 16 footer ride like a much larger boat.

Sales Brochure
Here is a page from the original sales brochure. Some nice specs there, like weight and overall length. Its a shame that no manufacturer, even Bayliner, makes a small cuddy like this anymore.

Check out the sub-projects under this one for modifications to suit my needs.
